We all can relate to having dark or difficult places in our lives. These places often prove to be constant battles. Many times these things may be hidden from everyone else but, present themselves as internal issues or silent struggles. There are 3 essential keys that I want to share with you about letting God heal your place of pain.

Acknowledge

Acknowledge the fact that the problem exists. Don’t ignore or deny that the issue is there. Being honest and admitting that the problem has not been resolved is the first step to freedom. Be aware that some things may not be noticeable because we often build walls of protection which blind us from what’s really bothering us. Burying emotions from painful experiences will block access to true peace. The Holy Spirit has no problem helping you identify these places if you ask for His help.

Repentance

Repentance is necessary If your place of pain has been a place in which you have tried to handle it in your own strength or if your way of dealing with it doesn’t line up with God’s word. Ask God to forgive you for any unforgiveness, bitterness, or anger that you have against anyone who has hurt you. Ask Him to heal you where you have been hurt and to help you forgive those who have hurt you. Even if you are silently disappointed or angry with God for not handling something the way that you thought He should have be honest and confess that to the Lord and ask Him to forgive you and cleanse your heart. This can be applied to any specific painful area in your life. Know that the Lord is not angry with you. He loves you and is faithful to help you.

Release

This key deals with surrendering everything that the painful places consist of and talking to God about every detail. He already knows what it is but, wants you to talk to Him about it. Think of this key as an exchange. You are giving your insecurities, fears, pain, etc. to your Heavenly Father and He gladly takes each burden and gives you the opposite of what you’ve been dealing with. It is vitally important that you cooperate with God. For instance, if holding grudges has been a struggle for you and He tells you to show kindness to someone who you’ve been holding a grudge against then be obedient. God knows exactly what we need to do to get to a place of peace.

Allow the Holy Spirit to override your flesh and you will begin to see positive changes occurring in your life. He has everything needed to remove the darkness and bring His marvelous peace and light into your situation. He is a master at making remarkable changes!

Reflections

  1. Can you identify any dark places in your life? If so, what are they?

  1. Make a commitment to cooperate with God and talk to Him about your dark places until He fills these places with His light.

  1. Imagine what your life would be like if those internal struggles did not exist. Now ask the Lord to bring your godly vision to pass.
