It should be the goal of each born again believer to live a life that is totally committed to God.  One of the best ways in showing our reverence to Him is through our commitment. In this blog I will discuss 3 ways to be totally committed to God.  Some of the words that thesaurus.com uses that are related to the word commit are devote, dedicate, to give all one’s got, and to pull out all stops.  Those are some very descriptive words that break down the word commit.  When we examine the words one by one they actually cause us to pause and consider whether we are actually doing our best to live committed lives unto God.

For instance are we truly:

  • Dedicated
  • Devoted
  • Giving our all
  • Pulling out all stops

Only we and God know the true answers.  Sometimes people can be dedicated to a cause, an assignment, to actually helping someone through a crisis and once that is fulfilled they revert to their uncommitted lifestyle.

I’m sure that there are multiple ways of committing oneself wholeheartedly to God.  I’m going to give you three ways.  I pray that they will help in your journey with the Lord.  Remember, He is so deserving of our very best.  Let’s make it a point to please Him daily.  Of course, we’ll fall short many times along the way but, all we have to do is talk to Him about it, ask for forgiveness, and ask Him to bless us to get on track.  His grace, love, and forgiveness never fails.  To God be the glory!

Showing Commitment

Make God Your Priority

Remember when no one else has your back, God does!  He’s the reason that you live and breathe each day.  He loves you so much, and always wants what’s best for you.  Why not return the favor and devote yourself to pleasing Him.  Spend quality time with Him each day through prayer, and studying the Holy Bible.  Quickly obey Him when you know that He wants you to do something.  You will find great pleasure in your life when you know that you’re pleasing Him. Include Him in everything you do.  Talk to Him first when you’re faced with something difficult.  Always remember that He loves spending time with you; talk to Him often.  Share everything with Him after all; He is your best friend.

Refuse to Compromise

Make a stand for righteousness.  Learn to love what God loves, and hate what He hates.  Don’t get into the erroneous mindset that proclaims worldly wisdom as truth, that doesn’t even come close to lining up with what the word of God says.  Don’t yield to negative peer pressure. Be willing to stand your ground regarding what you know is right.  You may feel alone if everyone else is in unison about a particular matter, and you refuse to side with them.  Just know that God is with you and He is pleased when you obey His way of doing things.  There’s a familiar quote worthy to be put to memory which says, “You and God are the majority.”

Reject Interference

Make a strong resolve within yourself that nothing and no one will ever come between your relationship with God.  When you know that He’s the most important person in your life then you will quickly recognize things that try to take your focus and allegiance away from the King of kings.  When you’re tempted to leave the Lord out of certain situations in your life an immediate red flag should go up letting you know that you’re getting off track.  The enemy loves to direct our attention away from God.  He uses people and situations to distract us from living a committed lifestyle unto God.  This can be quickly changed by repenting, rebuking the enemy, and putting our focus right back on the Lord.

Reflection

1.  Do you see any areas in which you can improve your commitment to the Lord?

2.  What changes will you make to increase your level of dedication to God?
